Water

The people of the Water Tribe are capable of adapting to many things. They have a deep sense of community and love that holds them together through anything.

Quick Overview: Originally, the Water Tribes were just one tribe located at the north pole. Eventually, a group of people who were unhappy with the traditionalist ways of the north broke away and moved to the south pole to begin their own tribe. During the Hundred Year War roughly 70 years ago, the Water Tribes were targeted by the Fire Nation once the Air Nomads had been wiped out. This was due to Water being the next element in the Avatar Cycle after Air. Nearly all of the benders were wiped out in the south pole, although the north pole remained fairly safe behind its majestic, icy walls. However, the northern Water Tribe was not entirely untouched; Admiral Zhao led a fleet of ships to wage war upon the northern Water Tribe. With the help of Avatar Aang, Zhao and his men were defeated and the Fire Nation withdrew from the north. The culture between the two tribes are as different as night and day. In the north, things are more traditional. Men use their waterbending to fight and women use theirs to heal. In comparison, the south was more gender equal. This was the only way of life for them until Master Pakku trained Katara in the art of offensive waterbending. Before the end of the Hundred Year war, the northern Water Tribe was a majestic city with architecture and infrastructure which relied heavily on waterbending. In contrast, the southern Water Tribe was more or less a single village in which people lived in small huts. The south had been a much larger tribe until Fire Nation raids dwindled their numbers significantly. After the war, the southern Water Tribe was built up again and is on much better footing than it was during the war. There is a lesser group of waterbenders known as the Foggy Swamp Tribe. They're more nomadic than their polar counterparts and have a greater affinity with plantlife, bending the water within plants to make them move to their will. Traits: Waterbenders are generally very "go with the flow" types of people, but that doesn't mean they can't hold grudges or show anger. Those who grow up in either tribe often have a sense of community, similar to Air Nomads. As waterbending uses energy redirection as a key tool, many people of Water Tribe heritage are good at besting their opponents, be it with bending or with wits. Waterbenders are typically born in Winter. During this time, their bending is slightly stronger than usual. Style: Water is versatile, as is waterbending. In order to control water, one must feel the push and pull of what they're controlling. Waterbending can be used offensively in a variety of ways: shooting icles, water whips, drowning someone in a sphere of water, etc. It can also be used defensively to use ice blocks as shields. Ruler: Before the war, there was a tribal chief who ruled the south and another tribal chief who ruled the north. However, the northern tribe was a somewhat de facto leader of both tribes for a great period of time. Eventually, the south grew enough to have its own political voice once again. There are even two Water Tribe seats on the city council. Bending: It is possible to bend just about anything as long as there is water in it. Waterbending is a true extension of one's life and lifestyle. You can bend water from a pot to a bowl; bend the water in plants to move them; and, if skilled enough, can draw moisture from the very air or even use your own perspiration as ammunition. It is important to note that waterbenders cannot create their own water (apart from perspiration, of course). A well-prepared waterbender will always carry a skein of water with them at all times. As waterbending was learned from the moon, as one of the myths suggests, waterbending is strongest at night than during the day. A waterbender is at their strongest during a full moon and unable to bend at all during a lunar eclipse. Emotional state is heavily tied into waterbending as well, as it uses the chi of a bender. An angry waterbender may, for example, bend without meaning to. Who: Anyone with Water Tribe or Foggy Swamp Tribe heritage can be a bender. |

Quick Overview: The art of healing is truly unique. One can use regular water and heal minor cuts and scratches with little ease. For more grievous injuries, spiritual water such as the water from the oasis at the North Pole must be used. With enough spiritual knowledge and intricate understanding of spirits, one can use this healing technique to calm angry spirits. Who: Only waterbenders can use the type of healing which relies on water as a catalyst. In order for your character to have the ability to use waterbending healing, you must submit a total of 100 comments from your character to the request post. Alternatively, you can request a waiver at the request post. |

Quick Overview: A subset of bending which many people see as evil. A ban was placed on it by Katara, although criminals like Yakone used it anyway. Yakone and his family are the only ones able to bloodbend psychically. All other bloodbenders rely on physical motions. Bloodbending itself is a bit of a misnomer and works by bending the water in a person's body, not just the blood. With intense concentration, you can control the limbs of a person and make them do anything against their will. It can also be used two twist the body enough to break bones. Who: This is a special subset. Waterbenders capable of bloodbending will know who they are. In short, characters with the "capability" to one day learn bloodbending will be told such. It is a very rare skill. Keep in mind that although the use of bloodbending is legally banned, that doesn't mean your character can't use it, only that they shouldn't do so without expecting consequences. |
