OOC Information

This application is for any character who IS a part of the ATLA/LoK series.

Characters: N/A
Contact: Plurk: BlackPidgeot, AIM: Tails Prower 10

IC Information

Name: Zuko
Age: 18
Canon: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Canon Point: Post "The Search"
Physical Description: Zuko
Possessions: Other than his clothes, his only notable possession is his Fire Lord's crown/hairpiece.
Companion: N/A

Personality:

At first glance, Zuko comes across as a very serious, down to earth, maybe even grumpy sort of individual. As Fire Lord, he loves his nation and is highly devoted to his people. Perhaps his biggest priority is restoring the honor of the Fire Nation after 100 years of war, and helping the Avatar keep balance between all the nations. Honor is something he takes very seriously, whether its his own or that of his country. He is fiercely loyal to this cause since he has witnessed first hand what his country did to the world. He once told his father that banishment was the best thing he'd ever done for him. It was because of this that Zuko was able to find himself and his true path.

Despite the lessons he had learned, they did not come easy. He has always had to fight and struggle for what he has. As opposed to his sister, Azula, who had everything handed to her. As his father once said, Azula was born lucky, while Zuko was lucky to be born. For years, particularly after his banishment, Zuko wanted nothing more than to have his father's approval and love. Ozai's animosity towards Zuko started at his birth and continued through out most of his life. That animosity peaked when Zuko was challenged by his father to an Agni Kai duel that left him permanently scarred and resulted in his exile and stripped of his birthright. Not only were the scars outwardly, on his face, but inwardly as well. He was hot headed and obsessed with restoring his honor, which meant capturing the Avatar and bringing him back to Ozai. He's driven, but has a lack of foresight that's gotten him in trouble on more than one occasion. Such as when he did manage to capture Aang but dragged him into a blizzard where he surely would have frozen to death if not rescued by the Avatar and his friends.

After being branded a traitor, Zuko was forced to live the life of a penniless wanderer in the Earth Kingdom. An experience that was very humbling for him. At first he resorted to stealing, even from those that were kind to him, but over time he began to change his ways, becoming more compassionate and kind. Despite this, Zuko was constantly conflicted and had a hard time choosing between what was right and wrong. Between what he thought he wanted, and what his destiny was calling him to do. This led to the betrayal of his Uncle Iroh, something he would end up deeply regretting. He eventually came to realize that his uncle had been more of a father to him than his own true father. Through his uncle's wisdom, and learning the tale of his two great grandfathers, Zuko eventually came to learn what his destiny was. And this called for betraying his nation in order to save it, and joining the Avatar.

Tempered by the flames of experience and hard life lessons, Zuko changed from an angry and ruthless youth, to an idealistic and honorable young man. His time with Aang and his friends helped Zuko to find peace and a new direction in his life. Whereas once his firebending was fueled by rage, he came to learn that fire came from life and energy, as shown to him by the dragons Ran and Shaw. Through hard work and sacrifice, Zuko has come a long way from the bitter person he once was, to the noble Fire Lord he is now.

Family has always been very important to Zuko. He was very close to his mother when he was younger, and has also shown great determination in finding her. In fact his first major act as Fire Lord was to send out search parties for her. On more than one occasion he demanded that Ozai tell him where she was, but with no success. However, with the help of his friends and his sister, he was reunited with her and discovered more about his own past. He is also very close to his Uncle Iroh, who played a more fatherly role in his life than Ozai. Often times Zuko ignored and resented Iroh's sagely advice, except when it suited him, but eventually came to respect it. Even when obsessed with finding the Avatar, Zuko put his uncle's safety first as he once turned away from chasing Aang to instead rescue him. Even after betraying his uncle, Zuko sought out his advice repeatedly and eventually tearfully apologized to him. His relationship with his father has always been complicated, even though his family was happy once when he was a child. Zuko cared deeply about what his father thought about him, and wanted his affection, but eventually realized he would never have it. He even cared about his ruthless sister, despite the two becoming bitter enemies. When Azula appeared to be falling to her death, Zuko expressed regret, which faded when Azula managed to save herself. However, Zuko knows that his sister and father pretty much equate to the worst family ever, and he didn't hesitate in doing his part to bring them down. Still, they are his family and after being inspired during a visit to the Earth Kingdom, he came to realize that his relationship with his family was important to the success of his leadership over the Fire Nation.

Matching his firebending skills, Zuko also has a flaming temper. Despite being far more composed than he use to be, this is a trait that will likely never go away. He has a short fuse, especially when under pressure and frustrated. However, he is determined to never let anger and rage drive his existence anymore. He is also appropriately stubborn and tenacious, something well seen when pursuing the Avatar. He still has these traits as well, but they have been redirected in more constructive and positive ways for the most part. However, Zuko also remains a very conflicted person. Thanks to his upbringing and his heritage, he constantly wars with himself on doing the right thing. Even after becoming Fire Lord, he was deeply troubled about how to handle the matter of the colonies that held citizens of both the Fire Nation and the Earth Kingdom. He chose to defend the colonies, even as the Earth Kingdom tried to push them out. A decision that was staunchly fought against, even by his friends, but turned out to be the right one in the end. His worries stemming not from his inability to lead, but his fear of becoming like his father. His sense of morality having come from the very beginning which was attributed to weakness by Ozai and still is by some members of the Fire Nation.

Zuko is not the most socially adept person. When joining Aang and his group, his interactions with them were awkward at first, especially considering that he was once their enemy. This awkwardness revealed a more comical side to his personality, although he's pretty bad at telling jokes and impersonations. However, his loyalty and sincerity won the trust of his friends. His other significant relationship is with Mai, one of Azula's former friends, who had always had a crush on him. Zuko most certainly had feelings for her, but their relationship was often a rocky one as they broke up twice, but came back together. However, Mai again recently decided to leave him after Zuko kept certain secrets from her. He ended up confessing his love for her, but this did not stop her, leaving him heartbroken and alone once more.

Yuri Lowell | Tales of Vesperia | Reserved

[personal profile] wolfstrike 2014-09-27 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
OOC Information

This application is for any character who is NOT a part of the ATLA/LoK series.

Player: Darkfeather
Age: 33
Characters: N/A
Contact: Plurk: BlackPidgeot, AIM: Tails Prower 10

IC Information

Name: Yuri Lowell
Age: 21
Canon: Tales of Vesperia
Canon Point: N/A
Physical Description: Yuri, Repede
Possessions: Since he's poor he doesn't have much, but his most valuable possession is his sword. A katana that he acquired during his time in the Earth Kingdom military. Also a gold and jeweled bracelet that he recieved from his fallen Captain.
Canon Abilities: N/A
Companion: Repede, his dog.

Personality:
At first glance, Yuri seems to be very cynical, sarcastic, even aloof and selfish. But Yuri is like an onion, in that he has layers. It just takes a matter of getting to know him to peel away those layers.

While outwardly, he doesn't seem to care all that much about anything, he's actually a deeply empathetic guy. He can't stand to see others suffering around him, and always has to do something about it. Even if it means making a personal sacrifice in order to do so. He believes in justice, but isn't the type to change the larger picture, such as government. Instead, he prefers to help with the smaller more immediate problems that are right there in front of him. After seeing the abuse the poor folks in the Lower Ring took at the hands of the Earth Queen and her government, Yuri has absolutely no respect for nobles or really anyone in higher power. He'll take the side of an average person before that of a wealthy or affluenced individual. In that way, he can sort of sympathize with groups like the Red Lotus and the Equalists. But he doesn't particularly care for their methods as a lot of innocent people have suffered as a result of their extremeism. Though he certainly had no qualms with Zaheer taking out the Earth Queen. It was about time someone did it, actually. In fact, Yuri is not above dirtying his own hands if it means that justice will be served. Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do. He's not afraid to take matters into his own hands, and will usually do so alone. Taking burdens onto his own shoulders and going lone wolf is what he tends to do. He just prefers doing it alone, because that way, nobody else has to get hurt.

When Yuri does a good deed for someone else, he will often just shrug if off or decline any sort of reward. He does not like the limelight and sees no need for being rewarded for doing the right thing. Even if it is morally questionable. Despite being a rather unlikely and reluctant hero type of guy, trouble tends to follow him wherever he goes. It's said that he has really bad luck. He'll just be somewhere, minding his own business, and a problem will arise that he just can't ignore. Cause what is living a normal life for him? There is no such thing. Moving to Republic City will just be another example of that. What is his life. Not only that, but he's also reckless. Even if it means going head on into danger to accomplish whatever goal it is, like taking on the Dai Li, he'll do it. And he won't care about the consequences. He's learned to get comfortable in prison cells by now. They're not so bad once you get used to it!

Once he gets to know someone a little bit, Yuri is actually pretty friendly and enjoys teasing people he likes. This often starts by giving them a nickname, especially if their name is too long for his liking. Yes, he does have a bit of a lazy streak. While he will jump at the chance to fight, because he's pretty obsessed with fighting, he will drag his feet when it comes to menial labor. It will also likely be accompanied with some sighing, complaining, or finding a way to weasel out of it. He also doesn't like being told what to do, and depending on who you are, can be pretty obstinate about it. When it comes to someone he doesn't like, sarcasm and snark are his weapons before he draws his sword. Despite his problems with government, Yuri will usually follow the law so long as its convenient. Only breaking it when he sees the need to. As far as feelings go, he's not exactly keen on showing what he truly feels about something. If he's worried, angry, or frustrated, he will often hide it behind a smile or just pretend not to care. The reason for this is to protect those around him as well as himself. Usually only those that know him really well can tell when he's truly bothered by something.

Yuri is a man of many talents. He's quite intelligent, but not at all book smart. He has no interest in books and doesn't like reading. He's more a man of action! Because of that, he never did well in school, and only has a very basic education. He can read and write, but only on a low level. Instead his intelligence comes in the form of street smarts and being very observant. Due to being poor, he was never able to learn swordsmanship under a master, so he taught himself and developed his own style. A style that he's very good at. Which he perfected while he was in the military after recieving training there, combining it with martial arts. Yuri is a lightweight, and as such is very quick, agile, but can be sent flying with a heavy blow. Still he's powerful, and combines his swordmanship style with kicks and punches. He can even go head to head with benders. Despite being a nonbender, he isn't about to let that be a disadvantage for him. He is also able to use smaller axes, though they tend to slow him down but make his blows more powerful. When it comes to his swordsmanship, he's also a bit of a show off. While performing his moves he'll often flip his blade in the air and catch it again, or even switch hands to get a better angle. He's truly ambidextrous and can use either hand just as well as the other.

When it comes to daily life, Yuri has to take care of himself and Repede. In Ba Sing Se, a lady who runs an inn gave him a room to live in, and also taught him how to cook. While he claims not to really like or dislike cooking, he's surprisingly talented at it. As far as keeping a normal job, he doesn't. Yuri tends to take on small odd jobs here and there to earn a little cash. He really has no interest in getting rich or anything, and prefers to live in the poorer sections of town anyway. That's what he's always known after all, and is able to make it there just fine anyway. Besides, its hard to look out for the little guys if he's not among them. Of course that also has nothing to do with the fact that nobody really wants to hire a criminal. Cough. Yuri is actually also pretty good with kids. He likes them, and doesn't mind looking after them or entertaining them. To many of the kids in his section of the Lower Ring, he acts like a big brother to them.

Perhaps one of Yuri's most infamous quirks is how he presents himself in the way that he looks. He's very casual. Not exactly sloppy, but he dresses in a way that makes him comfortable. The way he lives is sloppy though, as he tends to be kind of messy. Yuri likes to wear clothes that are easy to move in, to accomodate his love for fighting. Not to mention he always has his shirt open. Despite that, he keeps his hair long. With his boyish, almost feminine features, he's often mistaken for a girl. Though he's quite secure in his masculinity and doesn't take it personally. Although, it can get annoying sometimes. Though his gender is made quite clear when he speaks, as he has a distinctly masculine voice.

OU/AU: AU

History:
Orphaned as a baby, Yuri doesn't remember anything about his parents. The only life he ever knew growing up was living in the Lower Ring of Ba Sing Se. Several of the residents there took him in and raised him communally like he was their own, and as a result, developed a strong bond with the people who lived there. Poverty was a way of life for Yuri, and always has been. He grew up under the corrupt rule of the Earth Queen and the Dai Li, and witnessed many injustices at the hands of the government. Especially the taxing of the poor people of the Lower Ring. As he grew up, Yuri learned to fight with a sword. He was never very good in school, and instead took to developing his own style of swordmanship. Being born a nonbender, his sword was what he used to protect himself and those around him.

As he grew older, Yuri was told that he needed to get a respectable job. So he decided to join the military, and only barely made it in due to his poor education. Though the recruiters recognized his skill with the sword and made him a foot soldier in the army. He was then posted at a remote village in the Earth Kingdom with a squad of soldiers. This being the first time he had ever left the walls of Ba Sing Se. During his time in the military, Yuri was tasked with caring for the handful of trained dogs the squad had with them. This is where he met Repede. However, after only a few months, Yuri decided to quit the military after witnessing firsthand the corruption that led to his captain's death. Taking Repede with him, Yuri walked the entire way back to Ba Sing Se. It was during that trip that they were attacked by an angry Moose Lion, which resulted in Repede being severely injured and permanently blinded in one eye.

After his experience in the military, and continuing to witness the injustices in Ba Sing Se, Yuri turned to vilgilantism. He would regularly assault the tax collectors who came to take what little money the people had. Yuri also had no qualms attacking the police or even Dai Li agents who were harassing the people, exerting his own sense of justice since there was none to be found otherwise. This landed him in jail on more than one occasion of course, and led to him being branded a criminal and a nuisance. This is the life that he has been leading up until the point that he decided to move to Republic City after the Earth Queen's demise.

Sample: Test Drive Meme

Suggested Nationality: Earth Kingdom
Why?: Yuri's hometown in his canon is very much like Ba Sing Se and AUing him here makes the most sense. Plus with dark hair and and black eyes, his appearance looks closer to Earth Kingdom citizens than it does any other nation.

IC Information

Name: Aang
Age: 12/13
Canon: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Canon Point: Post-Book 3.
Physical Description: This is a good source for Aang's appearance! He's short but will be growing a lot as he enters his teenage years. He has tattoos on his body, keeps his head shaved, and has a pair of scars - a large one on his back plus a small one on the bottom of one foot.
Possessions: He'll have his formal robes, a bison whistle and an an air nomad pendent.
Companion: Appa, Momo.

Personality:

Aang is a young monk who is known for his sincerity, his boundless energy and his fun-loving nature. At the same time, this has been tempered by the responsibilities that have been thrust upon him, which he grows into over time: that of being the Avatar, as well as that of being the last Airbender. Both of those titles put immense pressures unto Aang and threatened to change him completely. As the Avatar, he was expected to become like an adult and in record time. He had to be a decisive force in the world, capable of making difficult choices and feeling the pressure of having to learn all the elements within a very limited amount of time. And as the last Airbender, he had to endure the pain of being alone and of having an entire culture's survival resting on his shoulders. However, Aang has managed to make it through his journey while retaining a lot of what makes him who he is while also doing his best to uphold those titles.

Most of the time, he fully embraces a child-like nature. Some of his favorite activities include riding a variety of animals (especially dangerous ones!), pulling pranks and dancing. He also likes to pull off a variety of tricks. Even though he can be humble in his dealings with others, he sometimes craves attention and can give in to being a total show-off. Even with a trick as simple as spinning marbles between his hands. Aang is also adventurous and he is used to traveling often. It's the life of an air nomad, and even after he was frozen, most of his time in the Avatar world has been spent traveling with Katara and Sokka. He's not used to having one solid place to call his home for more than a little while, beyond his room at the Southern Air Temple. Instead, he likes to pursue adventure, often with reckless abandon.

Aang is a very social monk. He's often kind and caring towards others, and it's easy to make friends with him. He's even offered friendship to someone who has hunted him relentlessly, and he made a jail cell full of thugs sympathize with his love life. He has only become somewhat more guarded over time, as shown when Zuko finally decided to join the group. Wheras Aang had previously told Zuko that he wished they could be friends despite everything, at his point in this journey he had become reluctant about it because of Zuko's betrayal of them at the Earth Kingdom. He initially rejected Zuko's offer to join them, but he later came around and accepted him. Despite these roadbumps, Aang still remains normally friendly. He's supportive of his friends and tries to be helpful when they're suffering, although sometimes he can be oblivious to more subtle troubles. Usually, he tends to think primarily in the present. In some cases, this can be helpful - with Katara, he focuses on the immediate situation of them both penguin sledding together when they first meet, which saves them from some stress and lets them have some plain, simple fun. But it's the type of thought that can also backfire on him; such as in the Ember Island Players, when he let the play's contradictory version of events frustrate him and push him towards springing an unwanted kiss on Katara without thinking over the consequences. On the flip side, knowing Katara has helped him to shape up to be more responsible and to look into the consequences of his actions more often.

He can be very trusting towards others, as well as having strong senses of optimism and innocence. All of these are tested by the trials he goes through in the series. A lot of what he's experienced has helped him to see some things more realistically, but he still maintains a light-hearted and optimistic spirit. This was shown in the deliberations of what to do with Ozai. Aang was facing a serious moral crisis, yet he still suggested a very light-hearted and impossible situation: that of using gluebending on the fire lord. Aang can also have a strong temper which counters his usual optimistic nature. It can be easily triggered by insulting or endangering the last remnants of his culture, especially Appa, or by endangering his friends. This is also connected to the Avatar State, which is why Aang has made more efforts over time to control himself. Normally, he can be very zen and happy-go-lucky about things. He rarely displays actual embarrassment - he wasn't bothered by dressing as Avatar Kyoshi, although he was annoyed by being portrayed by a woman in a play. And he will often be blunt about the truth, although in some cases he has stretched the truth or lied.

As an airbender, Aang may seem to be ideal. Air is the element of freedom, and he is very free-spirited, after all. Despite his energetic nature, he is able to summon the patience and concentration to meditate perfectly. He is very in tune with his spiritual side. And he upholds the pacifistic side of airbending very well. He avoids violence when he can, instead priding himself on solving problems by being "quick and clever". Some good examples of that include his battle with Zuko in "Bato of the Water Tribe" and with Zhao in "The Deserter". He also respects all life, as per air nomad custom, and he is a strict vegetarian. He only violated this once out of sheer anger in the desert, when he was pushed to his limits and seemed to kill a buzzard-wasp that was abducting Mom. His main difference from other airbenders is that he is not able to detach himself from others or from the world. Having attachments also seemed to poise a problem for his role as the Avatar. Aang does struggle with this, primarily with his earthly attachments which are his feelings of Katara, after Guru Pathik teaches him about chakras. Although Aang manages to be more independent by facing Fire Lord Ozai by himself, he still retains a strong supportive bond with his friends and it seems that he remains attached to them in general. Although this is a later canon point, this is something that Aang later asserts to Roku in The Promise Part 3.

He maintains a strong attachment to his culture in general, and he can tend to feel lonely due to being the only survivor of his nation. He can be very defensive of his culture and quick to anger when its remnants are disturbed. Despite this, he's had to make some compromises regarding his culture for the best of others' needs. In one instance, he reluctantly allowed an industrial group of people to live in the Northern Air Temple. And throughout Book 3, he ended up hiding his heritage for the sake of the group - burning his original glider and temporarily growing his hair out, even covering his tattoos. Beyond that, it is very easy for Aang to feel guilty and isolated. He has survivor's guilt from being the only surviving airbender, and he also has guilt that comes with all of the times he wasn't able to help people as the Avatar - especially for all of the suffering that the world has endured while he was asleep. This leads him to try hard in compensating as the Avatar, even if it doesn't only work. This is best shown in the Season 1 finale, when he declares that he will make a difference for the Northern Water Tribe that he wasn't able to for his people; but eventually, he had to retreat and admitted that "There were too many; I'm just one kid". Despite that, he has found strength in the love he's developed for Katara and his friends, and in his hopes for the future. The Guru's words of reassurance summed it up nicely. "The air nomads' love for you has not left this world. It has been reborn in the form of new love."

Aang's willpower is also something that waxes and wanes over time. In the beginning, he is like a frightened child, crumbling under the pressure of being the Avatar. His instincts have often been to retreat from pressure and from danger, and this is evident in his running away from the air temple to avoid being the Avatar, which leads to him accidentally freezing himself and setting off the canon's events. However, once he awakens, he starts learning how to stand up for himself and his friends. This helps him to make a stand as the Avatar. He does still relapse into running from his problems at several points, and he is shown to seek a more 'normal' life than that of the Avatar. He even enjoys spending time at a Fire Nation school largely because it's a relatively normal life that's free from the pressures of being the Avatar. But ultimately, he's able to gain the strength to make a stand against Fire Lord Ozai. This is also connected to Aang's struggles regarding decisiveness, which connected to the issue of whether or not he should kill the fire lord. His ideals as an airbender and the remnants of his innocence were at risk with the possibility of killing Ozai. However, through energy-bending he was able to find a solution that was not only truly decisive, but it relied on him having not bent his spirit. On him having held onto his ideals and his true self for this entire journey. And through that, Aang has earned himself some peace.

IC Information

Name: Weiss Schnee
Age: 17
Canon: RWBY
Canon Point: n/a
Physical Description: Weiss is a 17 year old girl, with a thin frame and pale complexion. In her canon, she is said to be the shortest of the main girls, though she wears heels to adjust. Her hair is almost pure white, and it hangs down past her hips even when pulled into a high ponytail. Her eyes are blue, and she has a faded but visible scar that runs over her left eye. She is also left-handed. clothes reference
Canon Abilities: n/a
Possessions: Upon entering Republic City, Weiss has two large suitcases filled with clothes and other items from home. She also has enough money to get herself a place to live (unless it is stolen or taken from her). Something more precious is the choker on her neck which is carved to look like an apple made of ice.
Companion: is ruby a pet n/a

Personality: At the very least, Weiss can be described as a cold girl. She projects an air of sophistication combined with a know-it-all attitude. Her words are usually sharp and to the point, and she has no qualms with giving her opinion, even if it isn't the nicest thing to say. Weiss wears a mask and puts a wall up around strangers. Her own voice actor has described her as "a little bit bitchy."

Growing up wasn't bad for her. She got almost everything she wanted. As such, she is spoiled and used to having the finer things in life. Even then, that does not mean she doesn't try hard to accomplish her goals. Weiss studies, gets good grades, and has become quite efficient in bending. She taught herself how to turn water to ice and then how to use that power to fight. She is confident in her abilities as a Bender, but wants to learn more. That is one reason why she decided moving to Republic City would be beneficial to her.

Underneath her cold exterior, Weiss is lonely. Her father is hardly around because he is busy with work, and her mother died when she was little. Weiss has a sister, but they are no longer close. It is difficult for her to get along with her peers because she is opinionated and bossy. She learned the hard way that many people were only interested in her because of her status. Eventually, she stopped trying to make friends altogether and instead focused on her bending. Even though she loves her father, Weiss is determined to come out of his shadow and make a name for herself. This is what drives her to be the best Bender she can be.

Because she has grown up around other Water Tribe members, particularly wealthy ones, Weiss can be discriminatory towards people who look different. She can be extremely judgmental and has no tolerance for groups like the Equalists or Red Lotus.

Another thing to be said about Weiss is her tendency to be rebellious. Growing up in the Northern Water Tribe, she was told by certain elders that her bending abilities would be more useful to her if she was a healer. Her father expressed worry for her when she wanted to fight with ice. There were several instances in Weiss' life where she felt that her father should have no say in what she did since he was not around. So she learned how to fight, she tied her ponytail to her side of her head, she refused to marry at 16. And now, she has decided to escape her past by coming to Republic City.

Her unruly behavior is not a gigantic part of her. Contrarily, she does not disregard authority. For all intents and purposes, Weiss is a hard worker. She wants to get stronger and even acknowledges her faults. She knows how to handle herself in a fight, but also knows when retreating would be her best option. Because she works so hard, it annoys her greatly to see other people slacking off, particularly when there is something to learn. She will not turn away assistance if she needs it.

If someone can get past the harsh exterior, crack through her walls, she has some good stuff in her. Deep down, Weiss wants to be able to place her trust in people. She longs for friends who will like her for who she is, not because of her name. She has the ability to love and nurture, even though that sometimes doesn't come across. She enjoys having a good time as much as any other girl, within reason, and she can be a valuable asset to a team because she is resolute and loyal.

OU/AU: Weiss will be an AU character, meaning she's lived in the world of A:tLA/LoK her whole life.

History: Many years ago, on a winter's day, little Weiss was born to two very proud parents from the Northern Water Tribe. She would be treated like royalty, the heiress to her father's booming business, the Schnee Trading Company. She would want for nothing and be given the finest education there was.

Her family discovered Weiss could bend at an early age. While her mother wanted to nurture the talent, her father was skeptical of it. He was not a Bender himself, and some rumors circulated that he felt inadequate because of that. Fortunately for him, the Schnee family was part of a culture that had been happy with keeping female Benders confined to curative professions. He wanted that for Weiss, and there were a few elderly family members who felt the same way.

Weiss' mother argued that the days of women being primarily healers were gone, and that her daughter could use her bending in whichever way she wanted. So, for a while, Weiss was trained in both offensive and defensive fighting with bending. She also learned how to use a sword. Her father was obviously not happy about his youngest daughter learning to fight, but he wisely would not go against the wishes of his wife. At the same time, he continued to groom Weiss for her future. She had private tutors for every subject. She would also attend fancy parties and mingle with adults. Sometimes that was fun, but Weiss enjoyed bending with her mother more.

Then there was an accident when Weiss was only seven years old. Her mother died, and Weiss was taken out of waterbending training not long after. She continued to study the art on her own, but grew resentful of her father because he took something she loved away from her. She became angry, which affected her waterbending. Eventually, she learned how to create ice because of the cold feelings growing inside her.

The Schnee Trading Company became huge during her childhood. It was repeatedly the target for petty gossip, as well as criminal activity. Weiss' father would often come home ragged and upset, and he would take his anger out on his daughters, sometimes by yelling at them for the smallest of things. He never abused them, but this did not help their already-struggling relationship. Weiss still cared about her father enough to dislike the people who made him angry, whether it be rival companies or pilfering gangs.

By the time Weiss turned sixteen, her father had almost completely tried to take over her life. He began looking for a husband for her, and she rejected every suitor. He became obsessed with trying to tie Weiss down, to keep her from Bending, but also he wanted her to be safe. He eventually found out she was doing small things to rebel against him, like dating a boy well below her class (this boy had even given her a betrothal necklace, which Weiss' father tried to throw away). The final straw came when he had set up lessons for her with an old healer. Weiss told him then and there that she was going to Republic City to learn how to be a real Bender, and he allowed her to go, knowing she would leave with or without his permission. At least if he sent her off with some money, he knew she would be financially secure, for a little while.

Weiss did not know why he let her go so easily, but she didn't argue. She took the money, packed a few bags, and caught the next boat headed for Republic City, intent on becoming her own person. And that is where our story starts.

Sample: from the TDM!

Suggested Nationality: Northern Water Tribe
Why?: In RWBY canon, Weiss is associated with the cold and snow/ice. I feel that her growing up and living in the Water Tribe would reflect that. I chose the Northern Water Tribe, specifically, because it is more metropolitan/cultivated. Weiss' father is a businessman. I would like for her family to be wealthy, again, tying into canon. Additionally, her eyes are also the same blue color of a Water Tribe citizen.
Bending: Water, primarily ice.
Subset: I imagine she would know a little healing, but nothing too involved yet, and I'd like her to learn more. I feel it might be interesting if she had an experience with bloodbending in the far future, but only if it would be allowed as part of her characterization. Currently, she doesn't need to know it.

IC Information

Name: Asami Sato
Age: 19
Canon: Legend of Korra
Canon Point: Post book 3
Physical Description: Asami stands about 5'9" and has a slender frame. She has a little bit of muscle definition from her training, and carries herself with perfect posture and confidence. She's never seen without her signature makeup: bold, red lipstick, mascara, and violet eye shadow. Her hair is always well kept and falls in heavy, dark waves down to her mid-back. Her nails are well taken care of. Her wardrobe is practical but up to date, and she favors the color burgundy.
Possessions: Asami's being taken real-time from canon, so no Spirit World pulling. But she always has on her person a purse with makeup, her car/moped keys, and usually her driving goggles. Then there's the whole mansion-full stuff. She also kind of owns a giant industrial company.
Canon Abilities: No abilities!
Companion: Ferocious Boy-Hunting Moped

Personality:
Asami presents herself as a refined and friendly young woman. She is naturally extroverted and socially adept, and this has only been supplemented by her childhood teetering on the edge of the public eye. She's very good at putting on the persona of a "good, innocent rich girl." This comes naturally to her. Asami mentions herself that people frequently assume that she's just "Daddy's helpless little girl," but in reality, she can handle herself in most situations. Her sweet, feminine personality comes naturally to her, but it isn't a weakness. She isn't one to hold a grudge, and thinks about most situations with a level head. She is intelligent and focused, and though she is forgiving, she is not a pushover. She doesn't get distracted with petty matters when there are more important things to be done. Asami is certain in her views and beliefs, and she will absolutely not let anyone make her choices for her.

Asami grew up young. She lost her mother to a firebending triad when she was six years old, and this caused her to grow very close to her father, who raised her to be the successor of Future Industries, the company he built himself. Asami's and her father Hiroshi's very different reactions to the murder of her mother highlight Asami's level-headed and logical nature. While her father developed an all-consuming hatred for bending in general, Asami didn't let the loss color her opinion of benders. This is obvious in her expressing to Mako that he makes her feel safe; she doesn't even mention how her mother died when they talk about it. The love and loss she feels for her mother outweighs her anger. This is a carrying trend in how Asami experiences loss, evidenced in the eventual loss of her father, and the shaky, gradual loss of her relationship with Mako. During the final conflict with the Equalists, her father went so far as to try to kill her. He has since been put in prison, and Asami never makes a mention of hating him, or even being angry at all. His betrayal and the loss of him affect her deeply, though, and she can't bring herself to even go to the Republic City prison for any other reason because it reminds her of him. When Mako, her boyfriend at the time, was showing obvious interest in Korra, she confronted him about it, only growing annoyed when he denied that there was any problem. Asami even made it a point to say that she wasn't angry at Korra. She is not a jealous person; everything just happened to go wrong at the worst possible time. Mako began drifting away at the same time Asami lost her father, the only family she had left and someone whom she was very close to. She expects the best of people, and wants the same honesty from others that she gives them. This can be a strength and a weakness. When she's annoyed, one can definitely see sass and sarcasm come into her demeanor. If she's angry with you, she's going to let you know. Asami is a naturally gentle soul, though she will never hesitate to stand up for herself.

With a rich businessman for a father, she has been brought up in a life of privilege in Republic City. Mansion, servants, etiquette lessons, the works. This lifestyle has fostered a materialist streak in Asami. Though she isn't greedy, or even quite spoiled, she's used to having a lot of stuff. Her tastes are definitely on the girly side, and she's never seen out of the house (or even her bedroom) without makeup and carefully done hair. In spite of her life of privilege, she isn't ignorant of those not as fortunate as she. Asami doesn't treat anybody differently, be it better or worse, based on their social standing, nor does she assume that others have shared similar experiences to hers. She is independent and hard-working in matters both small and large, whether it's being the only one to help Pema with the dishes or taking over the head position of an enormous company with very little notice as a nineteen year old woman. There is nothing skittish about Asami. She is always openly enthusiastic, and jumps head-first into everything she does.

Those closer to her see a looser version of Asami. Her independence and wilder side come further forward. She is very expressive and affectionate with her friends, and she can definitely have fun teasing them. She and Korra end up bonding in light of the disaster that was their respective romances with Mako. Asami is the kind of person who, unless she has a reason not to, will try to get along with pretty much anyone. She is extremely loyal to those she cares about. She is an avid sports fan, never missing Probending night at the Republic City Arena. Further reinforcing her ability to take care of herself, she is very physically fit and an extremely capable martial artist. Even at her young age, Asami has already spent a good deal of time working on cars, boats, and airplanes. She knows how they work, and even works as a designer and engineer for Future Industries. When caught in the desert with Korra and an entire air ship crew, she was able to build a sand sailor out of the wreckage, displaying both her cool-headed thinking and her engineering prowess, even in a very difficult situation. Though her father invented the biplane, Asami becomes the one to perfect it for commercial use. She also works as a test pilot. She's been racing ("testing") cars at the Future Industries track since she was old enough to drive. She's very adept at working with her hands, and is a naturally talented and well experienced operator of pretty much anything with a motor. She describes driving as "relaxing," and it is a very central part of her life.

Asami easily becomes attached to people who are supportive of her and believe in her, especially at this point in her life. She has no family left, and the six months prior to her travels with Team Avatar were filled with long hours spent alone in her office, desperately trying to save the company that her father dragged into the ground. Future Industries is, she says, all that she has left of her family, and for a while she essentially married herself to her job. She was in desperate need of a break, and when she does see the opportunity for something good, she clings to it, even if it's not the most rational decision. This is when she can become a bit naive. Asami makes it, unfortunately, easy for her to be taken advantage of. She is naturally trusting and optimistic, and this comes back to bite her when she turns to Varrick to help save her company. She places too much trust in him, and he ends up stealing a large shipment of mechatanks. After Mako promises her that he's not going to give up on her, she gets back together with him, only for him to make like it never happened and jump right back to Korra as soon as the Avatar is back in the picture. Asami's naiveness can be her greatest downfall. At weaker moments like this, she can lose sight of the bigger picture. Sure, saving her company was easier by selling mechatanks to the Southern Water Tribe, but she was also helping to fund an unnecessary war. Although Asami is usually a very level-headed thinker, she can be short-sighted in her choices when she has let herself get too caught up in their significance.

Finally, it is notable that at this canon point, she is closer to her Team Avatar friends than ever before. She has become friendly with the Air family, having stayed in their home and spent time with them. With her romance with Mako finally broken off for good, she shows no issue with being his teammate and friend, even if Mako isn't being the most sociable guy lately. She and Bolin bonded greatly throughout Book 2, particularly when Korra and Mako were off on their own. Her relationship with Korra is arguably the closest she has with anyone at this point, with both girls shown to have each others' backs repeatedly throughout the long conflict with the Red Lotus. Asami is determined to be there for Korra however she can and whenever she can.

History: Wiki link

Sample:
"Whew." Asami wiped the sweat from her brow as she pushed herself out from beneath her Satomobile. Bits of oil and engine grime smudged her face and neck, and her gloves were filthy, but it would come off in the shower. What a way to spend a Monday morning. She didn't mind being in this unkempt state when she was alone in the workshop, especially when she was excited about this new project. A different material here, an altered way of connecting things there. The newest line of Satomobiles would run smoother than any other car previously on the market.

There was something about being able to build a better car than her father ever could that made Asami swell with pride.

The news report on the radio came on with a breaking story about arrests of Equalist stragglers, and she reached for the knob to turn it off. She didn't want to listen to that. Not now, not ever. She hadn't even visited her father, since it had happened. Hadn't seen him. Hadn't written. It wasn't worth it, and she didn't even want to. It was so lonely, living in the mansion with only the staff for company, especially after spending so much time travelling the world with Team Avatar. She didn't like admitting it, but they were her only real friends. Mako was practically married to his job, Bolin was making plans with the Metal Clan, and Korra was all the way back in the Southern Water Tribe recovering. Asami frowned as she slipped her gloves off and rested them on the shop table. She wished she could have gone, but she understood why Korra didn't want company right now.

She only hoped she would be okay. At the very least, as close to okay as she possibly could be.

Taking a sip of water, Asami shut the lights of the garage for the day and stepped out onto the back lot of the mansion. Shower. Lunch. Paperwork. Contract meeting at 2 pm. Then maybe, for once, she could find some time for herself.

Nationality: Asami is a mix of Earth and Fire, since her family came from the Fire colonies in the Earth Kingdom.

IC Information

Name: Albert Heinrich
Age: 30
Canon: Cyborg 009 (Archaia comics version)
Physical Description: 5'10", broad shouldered and strong with steely grey hair and eyes so pale blue they appear white. He was brunette as a child and greyed prematurely. Link

Personality:
Albert’s had a fairly harsh life, which all serves to make him taciturn. He’s not the most talkative or the most warm and cuddly person, but that doesn't mean he’s standoffish or rude. In fact, Albert simply reserves his words for when they’re most needed and keeps an eye on most things in order to keep everyone safe. Despite his own beliefs, he has a big heart and really does want to see the world at peace even if he’s more of a realist and doesn’t believe it will ever actually happen. Even so, he doesn't find that as any deterrent for working towards it anyway.

The biggest hurdle for Albert to overcome in his life is the loss of his fiancée, something that’s happened recently in this AU that he hasn’t come to terms with yet. He’s only lived in Republic City for under a year and he’s still going through the motions, desperately lonely but afraid to get too close to others.

His second biggest issue is the loss of his right arm and its subsequent replacement with a metallic, mechanical replica. The loss of that chakra has hindered his earthbending on his right side and he has to constantly wear gloves and long sleeves to keep from getting stares. He feels decidedly abnormal and therefore isolated. Because of this and his deceased fiancée he has issues sharing much of himself with other people. That’s not to say he doesn’t talk to others, he does and he’s perfectly nice about it, but almost all of his interactions are superficial unless something strikes a chord.

That being said, Albert is still quite likely to make sardonic jokes about any topic at hand. He is not without a sense of humor and he keeps watch over those he considers friends in a surprisingly caring way. It seems that his uncaring, blasé attitude extends to his own safety and not that of others; he’s willing to go the extra mile to protect the innocent, especially children given that he didn’t get the chance to have any of his own, but actually getting close to him is incredibly difficult.

OU/AU: AU

History:
Albert was born 30 years ago to an herbalist mother and an Earth Kingdom soldier father. He grew up in the Lower Ring of Ba Sing Se and had a fairly unremarkable childhood other than the average amount of bullying one would expect for a quiet and shy child. He kept mostly to himself and his studies, wanting to make something of himself and rise above the Lower Ring, but also just being too painfully shy to make many friends. He was an earthbender at a young age, and his parents managed to scrape together enough money to pay for him to learn from a master. He took it as seriously as anything, being a solemn child, and became rather good at it though never did anything with it specifically. When he heard his master wanted to recommend him to be trained as a member of the Dai Li, he started to downplay his abilities, appearing to have hit a block in his training. Because of Albert’s apparent inability to progress, the matter was dropped.

Time went on and his parents died individually when Albert was in his twenties. His father was deployed to a border skirmish and killed in action and several years later his mother caught an illness in the course of her work and succumbed. This did not leave Albert alone, however. He had met and began a relationship with a woman from a merchant family and they planned to be married.

Unfortunately, the Earth Queen tightening her taxation of the people was taking its toll all this time and Albert decided there was no way he was going to be able to start a family with his fiancée in Ba Sing Se. So they planned their escape. It was a terrible plan, but Albert procured two passes to the Upper Ring through illegal means and snuck onto the Queen’s military airfield in order to steal a small aircraft to get over the walls. They intended to land and abandon the craft to prevent being tracked and then make their way to Republic City to claim asylum, but as you might expect, they were shot down outside the wall. Albert’s fiancée was killed in the crash and Albert was grievously wounded, having lost his right arm.

As luck would have it, Albert was pulled out of the wreck not by Earth Kingdom solders but by a group of traveling metalbenders seeking to expand their art through walking the world like Toph. They ferried the unconscious Albert away and, through an overeager desire to help, replaced his missing arm with a facsimile made through metalbending. Albert was less than thrilled when he awoke, being unable to move the arm as he doesn’t know how to bend metal himself (yet), and having had it done while unconscious and unable to consent, but he learned as they helped to heal the rest of his wounds that they had meant no harm.

The metalbenders brought him to Republic City at his request and he found an artificer to help replace the full metallic arm with one that has an inner working of gears and cogs so he can actually use it, using the hollowed out casing of the one made by the metal benders as an outer shell to protect the inner workings. Unfortunately, these things are not cheap and Albert remains in debt to the craftsman, as well as to the Republic City chapter of the syndicate that had helped him get tickets to the Upper Ring in Ba Sing Se to facilitate his escape.

As things stand now, Albert has a small apartment in a slum and works to repay his debts as a delivery driver for a courier company in the city. He keeps his inorganic arm hidden at all times, wearing sleeves and gloves even at the height of summer. He’s casually cordial to all he meets but there’s a sense of sadness that hangs over him like a weight; it may have been over a year since he escaped Ba Sing Se and came to Republic City, but he still wears his grief like a mantle.

Suggested Nationality: Earth Kingdom.
Why?: It’s integral to his backstory and I would like him to have the capacity to learn to metalbend with a proper teacher.
Bending: Earthbending
Subset: As yet unrealized capacity for metalbending

IC Information

Name: Dipper Pines
Age: 12
Canon: Gravity Falls
Canon Point: Not long after S2E5, "Soos and the Real Girl"
Physical Description: Dipper is a very short twelve year old boy that has the physique of several limp noodles attached together, poofy brown hair, and a birthmark that looks like the Big Dipper on his forehead. He tends to wear a lot of hats because of his birth mark.
Canon Abilities: Memorizing lyrics to top 40's pop songs. Being sweaty and awkward. Clicking pens until he drives the people around him to insanity. (In short, none). He is a very smart kid, though, good at cracking mysteries, solving puzzles, and very bright academically. In canon he's shown to have a lot of working knowledge of science and history, for instance.
Possessions: - 1 weird book of weird magical stuff written by some mysterious author. None of the spells will work in this new world, naturally, but it does have one-third of the mechanical plans to what could possibly maybe be a interdimensional portal in it. (That probably also wouldn't work but it'd be interesting if some unsavory parties ever thought it might work).
- 1 hat with a pine tree on it
- 1 outfit (puffy blue down vest, red t-shirt, grey shorts, etc etc.)
- 1 small portable blacklight with a battery that will eventually run out
- 1 ballpoint pen
- 1 compass
- 1 map of Gravity Falls with all the weird stuff added by hand to it, including such entries as "gnome kingdom" and "floating eyeballs???"
- 1 small ball of string because you should always have string
- 1 small library book titled "My Palms are Itchy: Poison Ivy or Puberty? A helpful guide"
- 1 set of lock picks for sneaking into places he really shouldn't
- 1 Jake-Explosion-in-My-Pocket toy, which is a little handheld toy shaped like several sticks of dynamite with a very angry man's face on it. It has several prerecorded catch phrases from action/adventure hero and fictional explorer/archaeologist/paleontologist Jake Explosion, such as "I'm going to punch you back to the Pre-Pottery Neolithic A period!" and "It's not graverobbing if you donate it to a museum!" The battery should last on it for a while since it doesn't use much power but it's a small, weak battery.

Companion: N/A

Personality: Dipper is a very thoughtful and somewhat serious kid who loves solving puzzles and uncovering mysteries. He tries very hard to act more adult than he is and is somewhat eager to leave childhood behind, possibly because he's a very bookish and somewhat socially awkward kid that rarely feels comfortable in his own skin. Like many awkward kids, he wants desperately to be cool without realizing he's already cool in his own way what with being smart and often fairly funny. He has a dry and somewhat self-deprecating sense of humor that he uses to engage the world with.

He can be very logical and analytical, which means he's sometimes a grounding influence on the people around him, but sometimes can overthink things until he spins himself into circles. This tendency expresses a lot around his sister Mabel; Dipper sometimes pulls her back down to Earth during her flights of fancy, and in turn she sometimes gets him to stop overthinking things so much he's twisting himself up inside because of it or getting overly paranoid.

Dipper often completely loses himself in books but at the moment he's practically obsessed with one particular book, a Journal (numbered three) left by a mysterious author who learned many secrets of the mysterious town of Gravity Falls. Dipper has a tendency towards obsession and conspiracy theories that has only been stoked into a roaring flame by the secrets and weirdness he's seen. When he finds himself trapped in the world of the Four Nations that obsessive tendency will likely express in him obsessing over how they were brought there, why, finding a way home, and finding out as many interesting things and secrets he can about the new world he finds himself in as he can.

Despite being a smart and pretty nice kid, he is a kid working his way through puberty and sometimes has the occasional crisis of confidence. He wishes he was as good at being social as his sister Mabel, and what with being a small, skinny boy who isn't very good at macho stuff (who does things like listen to the music of 70's Swedish pop sensation BABBA, for instance) Dipper sometimes gets down on himself. These bouts of moping and frustration usually iron themselves out since they're all part of Dipper growing up, but it can take him time to work things out for himself, especially if others are putting him down and reinforcing what he thinks about himself. He's still on the long, bumpy rode of learning to be comfortable in his own skin.

Ultimately, though, he's a ferociously brave kid with a very strong will and compassionate streak. While his obsessive nature has sometimes put himself and other people in danger he tries just as hard to get people out of it again, and the world of the Four Nations will likely present quite a few opportunities for Dipper to try to help other people out, especially since the world is a little out of balance. When pushed, Dipper can do a complete 180 from timid kid who doesn't believe in himself to total hero, especially if someone else is in danger.

History: Not much is known about Dipper's early history other than that he had what seems to be a fairly normal suburban childhood in Piedmont, California. It is implied that Dipper's always had some trouble with social skills, given he's a very bookish, cerebral boy. His sister Mabel has also implied he's always been into crazy conspiracy theories and that he's always done very well academically. He often demonstrates this on the show with his skills in subjects like math and physics and from how he's constantly correcting Mabel when she spouts historical and scientific inaccuracies.

Despite their very different personalities, he's pretty much always been inseparable from his twin sister Mabel from the crib onward, often doing things with her like dressing up in twin-themed costumes for Halloween. While they sometimes get on each other's nerves the two really do adore each other and spend most of their time together. Dipper and Mabel seem to have a good relationship with their parents, who sent them on vacation to visit their Grunkle Stan because they thought they'd have fun in the outdoors and fresh air. Despite the weirdness and danger of Gravity Falls (and also because of it) they have been enjoying their summer so it was a good call on their parents' part, though it's highly unlikely they wouldn't want them to stay if they knew all the danger they keep getting into.

Recently, Dipper's tendency towards puzzle-solving has been kicked into high gear by the strange mysteries in Gravity Falls. Not long after the twins got there, Mabel found a new boyfriend, a lurching older boy who said his name was Norman, and after finding a mysterious journal labeled "3" that purported to talk about all the strange paranormal activity of the town, Dipper become obsessed with the idea that Norman was a zombie and started following him and his sister around because he feared she'd be in danger. Eventually Norman was revealed to actually be several gnomes standing on each other's shoulders who wanted to make Mabel their gnome queen. When she politely refused, they tried to kidnap her, leading to Dipper and Mabel facing off against their entire gnome army and the resulting giant monster gnome they assembled into. The twins eventually emerged victorious thanks to Mabel's quick thinking with a leaf blower.

Despite the journal's recommendation that Dipper "trust no one" he decided to share everything he found with his sister as he trusted her absolutely. The two of them and their friends Wendy and Soos (the staff of their uncle's tourist trap) have been running around having weird adventures all over Gravity Falls ever since. They've faced everything from mechanical sea monsters to evil, animated wax sculptures to ghosts to video game characters brought to life. Dipper's had to personally contend with making peace with his his feelings of powerlessness, weakness, and unmanliness, and dealing with his first unrequited crush (on Wendy).

Eventually they had a run-in with Stan's rival, child "psychic" Lil' Gideon, who immediately took a liking to Mabel and pressured her to date him. Mabel had no interest in Gideon beyond friendship and found his advances to be too much but was guilted by other people in town to date him because he was such a "nice guy." After multiple failed attempts to put some distance between them, Mabel wanted to break up with Gideon but was too intimidated by the prospect, so Dipper - who had asserted that she had a right to break off with him whenever she wanted - offered to tell Gideon for her.

Having his sister's back proved almost fatal however as it was revealed that Gideon had a magical amulet that he used to try to kill Dipper with for "getting in between them." Mabel, following after Dipper after deciding that Gideon deserved to be broken up with face to face, came just in time to trick Gideon, steal the amulet, and save her brother. Gideon, a holder of one of the other three mysterious journals, still believed Mabel was being influenced by her family so he swore vengeance on the Pines. Using his journal, he summoned a demon named Bill Cipher to go into Grunkle Stan's head to steal the combination to the safe that contained the deed to the Mystery Shack, so he could steal it away from the Pines.

The twins managed to thwart Bill Cipher and eventually Gideon's further escapades with his giant robot, and since then have been going on further adventures in the strange town of Gravity Falls.
